Untitled_(Kitchen_Table)

Detail shots of full installation below video.

A symbol of the synthesis of familial bonds and hard work, the kitchen table assumes an important role in working-middle class life. At the center of this synthesis is the intention to and action of support, whether it be through bonding or working. Throughout the piece, these two types of support make themselves evident via the visible cuts and reconstructions of the table. The various cuts symbolize the work-intensive tasks performed by the family, while each reconstruction represents the formation of bonds. The poses demonstrate my own attempts at supporting. The present table acts as an artifact of these processes and advances the idea of support as the viewers themselves gather around it, creating their own bonds with one another.
